Mobile operator IPKO now leads with 90 percent coverage of the population with fastest mobile internet technologies – 3G and 4G

Pristina, March 21, 2017 – IPKO, Kosovo’s most advanced telecom operator has expanded the coverage of its mobile network with new locations for base stations, while the company also continued modernization activities by upgrading more than 100 of its existing antennas with fastest mobile technologies – combination of 3G and 4G LTE.

Modernization of the above has significantly increased the degree of coverage of population with 3G services from 87 percent to 90.7 percent, while service coverage in LTE / 4G increased from 81.7 percent to 84, 4 percent.

At the end of 2016, IPKO has expanded its 4G network in 54 new settlements, namely 67 villages of 18 largest municipalities, including the coverage of large areas and touristic resort such as Brezovica.

Strengthening the 4G network is done in neighborhoods and settlements of Ferizaj, Fushë Kosovë, Gjakova, Prizren, Junik, Klina, Malishevë, Mitrovicë, Peja, Pristinë, Rahovec and Vushtrri. On ideal laboratory conditions, but also recorded by users of the network, IPKO 4G speeds reach up to 150Mbps.

Whereas the company has expanded its 3G network coverage into 21 new municipalities, covering 90 additional villages with 53 new antennas for faster connection and browsing mobile internet on 3G, which enables download speeds from mobile devices up to 35Mbps.

On the 3G network expansion and advancement, IPKO has also reinforced 3G signal on existing areas of Gjilan, Mitrovica, Obiliq, Podujevë, Prishtinë and Prizren, providing better mobile connectivity experience for hundreds of thousands of inhabitants of highly populated urban areas.

In less than 10 years of operation in the mobile market, IPKO has invested almost 300 million euros fix and mobile networks, while remaining the first mobile telephony to debut with fastest mobile internet technologies of 3G and 4G, in 2013 and 2014, respectively.
